Brief Biography of Organisation:
The Italian Red Cross (ItRC) is the Italian national Red Cross society. It was one of the original founding members of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The Italian Red Cross is currently a member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).The main activities ot the ItRC are the following: Safeguard and protect health and life; Encourage support and social inclusion; Prepare the community and respond to emergencies and disasters; Spread the International Humanitarian Law (IHL), the Fundamental Principles and the Humanitarian Values. Cooperate with the other members of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement; Promote youths development and a culture of active citizenship. The ItRC operate with a capillary, efficient and conspicuous structure, treasuring the activity of volunteers throughout 21 Regional Branch and 667 Local Branch spread all over the national territory. The Italian Red Cross is auxiliary to the public authorities, and implements health and first aid activities and social support to the population. Particularly the ItRC is an operative structure within the National Civil Protection system and is engaged in prepardess and disaster risk reduction actions, emergency response to disaster, health, medical assistance and social assistance to the population affected by disaster and humanitarian emergency.
